Mass Storage Cameras
Excluding some exceptions, all USB Mass Storage based cameras are supported and are automounted by the system.
Also all Firewire (ieee1394) mass storage based cameras are supported.
Vendors that support USB mass storage camera:
- Nikon
- Olympus
- Sony
- Pentax
- HP (Photosmart series)
- Fuji
- Casio (from the last years)
- Konica
- Minolta
- Samsung Digimax
- Vivitar
Most Vivitar cameras are supported through the Mass USB storage protocol. Some Vivitar models such as the Vivitar 3350 do not support USB mass storage, but the chipsets embedded in these cameras fortunately are Linux compatible.
PictBridge(tm), PTP and MTP Cameras
If your camera claims "PictBridge", "PTP" and/or "MTP" support, it is definitely supported by SUSE Linux / openSUSE via the libgphoto2 mechanisms.
Camera vendors that support this standard are:

- Panasonic / Leica
- Nikon
- Canon
- HP (Photosmart series of the last 2 years)
- Sony
- Fuji
Other cameras
Most midrange and hirange cameras using USB work out of the box.
Low-End cameras sometimes implement their own protocols. A lot of these protocols are supported by libgphoto2 and its client software.
Vendor productss supported by libgphoto2 that do not support PTP or mass storage:
- Ricoh Caplio series (common inexpensive brand in Germany)
