Testing/Basic

This test runs through basic operation of openSUSE Linux with either GNOME or KDE.

Preparation

  1. Download the latest Development Version of openSUSE Linux.
  2. Install the system (you can do the Testing/Installation test plan as well).

Tests

  1. Boot the system and confirm proper graphical progress display and login screen
  2. Log in with default session as non-root.
    1. Did you hear the login sound?
    2. Is the screen resolution as expected?
    3. Is the keyboard layout as expected?
  3. Start OpenOffice Writer, select New text Document.
    1. Write a few sentences, something unique as you will search for it later. Make a deliberate spelling mistake, did you get a squiggly red line? right-click on word and correct.
    2. Save document to the default location. (Documents in your Home folder). And close Writer.
  4. Insert a USB Flash drive - does it mount, and appear on the desktop. Copy the Writer document to your USB drive. (or use a floppy)
  5. Double Click on the document on the USB drive, does Writer open the document? Close Writer.
  6. Go to the Recent Documents - does the document appear? Select it. Does Writer open?
  7. In the system Search Box, search for a word that appears in your document. Does it find it?
  8. Open web browser and navigate to any website. Note a unique or unusual word, and close Web browser.
  9. In the system Search Box, search for the word from the website - does it find the web page?
  10. Insert an Audio CD - What happened? Did it meet your expectation?
  11. Log out, shutdown/reboot
    1. Does appropriate options appear for power management (Hibernate and/or Suspend)
    2. Confirm proper graphical progress display and reboot/shutdown functionality
